K-Dramas You Need To Watch

Hey Fonzies~ It’s no secret that Korean Dramas are getting more popular by the day, largely thanks to Squid Game, a Korean Netflix series that garnered millions of fans worldwide. The hype of K-Dramas is well-deserved thanks to the amazing storyline, plot twists, and talented casts. Other than Squid Game, there are other K-Dramas that are just as amazing so, get your popcorn and boba ready cuz we’re here to present to you, “K-Dramas That You Need To Watch” 기대해!

1. Boys Over Flower

Synopsis: Jandi is a poor student who transfers to an exclusive high school after saving a student from suicide. Here, the crosses paths with four of the richest boys in South Korea called F4 (Flower 4) and falls in love with one of them.

It’s a cliché poor girl, rich boy love story but this is one of the OG’s. Every person who’s into K-Drama has watched this and will go an re-watch it because there’s a sense of nostalgia for them. It’s a romantic comedy that gets you hooked, and the love triangle makes you debate over “Team Junpyo” or “Team Jihu”. It’s a classic and I urge everyone to watch it.

2. The Penthouse: War in Life

Synopsis: Insatiably ambitious residents of Seoul’s most luxurious apartment throw their morals aside to achieve dizzying heights of wealth and power.

This is a 3 season K-Drama filled with plot twists, suspense, and thrills. I, myself dedicated 1 year and a half of my life just to watching this. This series will make you cry your heart out, curse till there’s no tomorrow, jaw-dropping, and most like will tempt you into throwing your laptop across the room. The acting is phenomenal and it’s like there’s a plot twist in every episode. But’s it’s such a worthwhile watch. If I had to endure heartaches every week, then you should too.

3. The World of the Married

Synopsis: A turbulent twister of lies, betrayals, and revenge tears apart the seemingly picture-perfect marriage between a doctor and a filmmaker.

Now if Penthouse makes you tempted to throw your device across the room, this drama will make you wanna throw yourself across the room. I can’t tell you how many times I screamed profanities at the top of my lungs out of anger. It really makes you scream "야! 이개새끼"It’s definitely not a drama that you’d re-watch but it’s one that you should experience watching once.

4. It’s Okay to Not Be Okay

Synopsis: An extraordinary road to emotional healing opens up for an antisocial children’s book writer and a selfless psych ward caretaker when they cross paths.

This is an amazing drama that talks about and brings light to sensitive topics like mental illness and autism. The chemistry between the main characters is just a chef’s kiss. The lead actress hasn’t portrayed a weak damsel in distress but as a strong independent woman.

5. Strong Woman Do Bong Soon

Synopsis: A woman born with superhuman strength is hired by the CEO of a gaming company to be his bodyguard.

This is a drama that I just keep on re-watching because of how cute it is. The lead actress is a strong (literally) independent woman who uses her strength to fight injustice. This drama talks about women's empowerment and it’s important that we have this representation so that people understand the situation at hand. The chemistry between the main characters was at first like cat and mouse but it developed into cute puppy love and it’s freaking precious.

6. Juvenile Justice

Synopsis: A tough judge balances her aversion to minor offenders with firm beliefs on justice and punishment as she tackles complex cases inside a juvenile court.

Now, this drama is a tough watch, I mean any drama dealing with court scenes and justice would be a difficult watch. What makes this drama special is that most of the scenes are based on real-life scenarios that happen in juvenile court in South Korea as minors won’t be prosecuted no matter how serious the crime. It makes you sympathize with the victims as you pull your hair out of anger.

7. Mouse

Synopsis: Bareum, a novice police officer of Gudong Police office, takes care of all the town’s misbehaviors. One day, however, he teams up with a notorious detective Muchi to arrest a psychopathic criminal.

THE PLOT TWIST I SWEAR TO GOD!!! Okay, that’s it. I don’t want to spoil much of this drama because it’s something that you need to watch without spoilers to enjoy. So, enjoy

8. Hotel Del Luna

Synopsis: Located in the middle of Seoul, this hotel is the eponymous hotel that caters only to ghosts. The beautiful but ill-tempered CEO is cursed to manage the hotel due to a terrible crime she committed, but cannot remember.

The beginning of each scene is captivating with beautiful cinematography, an amazing cast, and a good storyline. It also has one of the best OST in K-Drama history. The way the actors portray their characters is to a T! I don’t think anyone else is fit for the roles of Jang Manwol and Goo Changsung except for IU and Yeo Jingoo. Not only are the main actors amazing but the side characters make it just as exciting to see them on screen.

9. Sweet Home

Synopsis: Based on a Webtoon with the same title, Sweet Home is about when humans turn into savage monsters. One troubled teenager and his neighbors fight to survive and hold onto their humanity.

In my opinion, this has got to be of Song Kang’s best performances (fight me). The storyline is perfect with amazing acting performances from each actor. Every character got their chance to shine, making you feel attached to them. The design of each monster is top-notch, being scary and cool at the same time. Not to mention that it has one of the saddest death scenes.

10. Strangers From Hell

Synopsis: A young man moves into a cheap apartment and must share the kitchen and bathroom with weird and suspicious residents.

This is a work of art of psychological thrillers. Seeing the main character gradually going insane due to his neighbors and the insanity of his neighbors is a creepy yet intriguing sight. The cinematography and camerawork is just simply a chef’s kiss as it makes you feel uneasy and claustrophobic. The horror aspect doesn’t rely on jump scares but by messing with the psyche of someone. I would totally recommend this to you if you’re in horror and psychological thriller.

That’s all from us Fonzies!! Please don’t hate me if I didn’t put your favorite K-Drama on this list. Join the cult of binge-watching K-Dramas till 3 am! I hope you enjoyed this week’s listing! Thank you <3 나중에 봐요
