Busting The Most Commonly Heard Myths !

What’s up fonzies?

How has heading back to campus and meeting your friends been?

I’m sure you guys are even more pumped than before.

Well I’ve got something you could talk or “debate” with your friends regarding myths we have heard our entire childhood !

It’s about time we bust them and bring out the real facts.

1. Bulls get angry when they see the colour red.

Don’t tell me you knew this was a myth, neither did I know until I came across this post and knew I had to share it !

You're hardly alone if you believe that when matadors wave those red capes to make bulls charge at them, it's the colour that incites their anger.

However, according to the American Science Guide, bulls

The movement of the cape, is what actually triggers the bull's anger.

2. You'll get cramps if you go swimming right after you eat.

I had to wait for about 30 minutes outside the pool covered in my towel shivering because my mom refused to let me in 😫

It is definitely a common belief that swimming right after eating will cause cramps or cause your body to “sink”…. I know, it sounds somewhat strange hearing that . And fortunately, it isn’t true !

(no matter how many times your parents said it was)

Yes, the body requires extra blood in order to digest, but not nearly enough to prevent the muscles in your arms and legs from working as they should.

3. You need to drink at least eight glasses of water every day.

It is fine if you aren’t at your 7th glass today, don’t feel bad.

For your information, it isn’t really a rule for healthy living.

According to the Mayo Clinic, the amount of water you need daily depends on multiple factors, like your overall health, your activity levels, and where you live. No single number applies to humans across the board—some people may be perfectly hydrated with fewer than eight glasses and others might need more.

4. Eating food within 5 seconds of dropping it on the floor is safe.

Remember those gumball machines we used to play by paying fifty or eighty cents just to get a tiny sized candy? and it immediately rolls onto the floor once it barges out of the machine ?

But if you grab within five seconds, it's ok, right?

I get that frustration very well. Pretty sure we all have had similar experiences.

Sadly, the five-second-rule isn't a real thing. Bacteria can contaminate a food within milliseconds.

Myth busting tests show that moist foods attract more bacteria than dry foods, but there's no "safe duration." Instead, safety depends on how clean the surface you dropped the food on is.

Whether you eat it or not after that is up to you, but during a time like this, it is better to be avoided.

5. Hair and nails keep growing after death.

Hair and fingernails do not keep growing once someone dies.

Instead, the skin dries out and shrinks, giving the appearance of further growth.

6. Cracking your knuckles causes arthritis.

This is false. According to Uchealth, a 30-year study showed this is not the case. However, knuckle cracking can lessen one’s grip strength because of repeated over stretching of the tendons.

7. Sitting too close to the television will make you go blind.

False. Televisions and other devices emit such low levels of radiation that they have less effect on the body. However, if you stare at the same thing for a long period of time can cause exhaustion to the eye muscles, thereby affecting vision. But there has been no proof this causes long-term damage.

Well there you have it. There’s so much more myths to bust but here are the most common ones !

Hope this cleared up the thoughts or beliefs you had for a long period of time. See ya !
