Bangkitlah Negaraku

To commemorate the day Malaysia gained independence from the British Empire on the 31st of August 1957, I created a poster titled "Bangkitlah Negaraku" or "Rise Up My Nation".

I drew inspiration from the "Jalur Gemilang" (the official name of the Malaysian flag) and other uniquely Malaysian symbols. The colours, crescent and star were directly taken from the flag. The map on the middle is the map of Malaysia, with the left being Peninsular Malaysia and the right being Sarawak and Sabah.

Aside from honouring Hari Merdeka (Independence Day), I made it to raise patriotism especially during a difficult time for Malaysia; a dragging pandemic, economic shutdowns and unstable politics. As Malaysians we must remember, we the rakyat (citizens of Malaysia) are above our differences. Race and religion must not divide us. Let us show our patriotism and love for the nation through helping each other and through fighting for change and justice.

"We are all Malaysians. This is the bond that unites us. Let us always remember that unity is our fundamental strength as a people as a nation." - Tunku Abdul Rahman, Malaysia's First Prime Minister
