How To Implement SGD Goals in Your Life

Hi Fonzies!!!

You’ve been hearing about SDG Goals ever since you’ve entered Sunway right, but do you know what they are? The Sustainable Development Goals or Global Goals are a collection of 17 interlinked global goals designed to be a “blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all”. The SDGs were set up in 2015 by the United Nations General Assembly and are intended to be achieved by 2030. Sunway Group is fully committed to the agendas of SDG and aspire to be Asia’s model corporation in sustainable development. Now we can also implement these goals in our daily life to make our lives better.

1. Reuse, reduce, recycle

Yup, the very first on the list is the classic 3R rule – the one that most of us have definitely heard of before. From small things to just reusing plastic cups as planters or recycling the pile of old magazines in your house instead of throwing them out, the 3Rs is absolutely one of the most simple but impactful ways we can help.

2. Take public transport

Indeed, having our own cars is convenient, and it would be unrealistic to ask everyone to depend purely on public transport to get around. However, using public transport whenever possible contributes more to the environment than we think. Not only are carbon emissions significantly lower, and you get to support the country’s economy as well.

3. Volunteer

Do you want to contribute but are not sure of how to or where to? Well, one of the best ways to start is to volunteer! Join your school’s volunteering club or find organizations around you to get connected to volunteering events, such as beach cleaning or tutoring students. The volunteering session might be tiring, but it is guaranteed to bring you an incredible amount of satisfaction while also leaving a great impact on the people you have aided.

4. Change up your shopping habits

Making little changes to your shopping habits is also a great way to contribute to SDG Goals. Go thrifting instead of buying fast fashion, get items made out of recycled materials, buy local products instead of imported ones - these small choices can go a long way if many people make them.

5. Educate yourself and others

Knowledge is also power, as most of us probably have heard. With how accessible information is nowadays, there are many ways in which you can research the Sustainable Development Goals, and also information concerning it such as your rights and responsibilities. With knowledge in hand, you can also help bring awareness to others around you, such as your family and friends.

Making a change is a team effort, and you are a crucial part of the team. So Fonzies, now that you know how to contribute, do join us in our journey to implement the goals in our lives! ( Hope you have fun while doing it too!)
