Hear ye, hear ye fellow Fonzies! (Specifically those dreamers/readers ;)
Have you ever read a book taken place in a rural village or allowed your imagination to run wild? This is one of the places where fantasy and fiction comes alive! Introducing Cotswolds, a region in central-southwest England, renowned for their most picturesque villages that would easily transport you into your favourite fantasy book.
Typical English landscape of lovely green rolling hills, stone walls, woodland and charming little towns and villages. Castle Combe (picture below), is the face of Cotswolds and has also been used as a film set for many movies such as, 'Doctor Dolittle' in 1967, 'Stardust' in 2007 and many more.
Things to do in Cotswolds:
Stroll around Abbey House Gardens
Abbey House is a privately owned country house garden in England's oldest town - Malmesbury. With hedges and flowers stretching 5 acres across the land. Abbey House Gardens hosts 2,000 different roses, herb gardens, river walks and many more nature attractions. It only opens its gates on selected Saturdays at specific times. So, definitely don't miss out on that.
Antique shopping in Stow-on-the-wold
Have the desire of collecting antique trinkets and dresses? Fear not, Stow-on-the-wold has a reputation for having some of Britain's best antique shop. Purchase your fairytale accessories and dress away!
Wander around the pretty village of Whichford
Family-run Whichford Pottery is a homey café, which serves delectable delicacies and beverages ranging from sweet to tangy, leaving your tongue with an impressionable aftertaste. Round it off with a trip to Cotswolds Distillery for a tour and meanwhile, pick up a bottle of gin!
Touring the Blenheim Palace
Fulfil your most royal fantasies by dressing up in the fanciest outfits you can imagine, while touring around the palace with a group. Whether princess or prince, Blenheim Palace welcomes you!
How to get to Cotswolds:
Destination is southern part of Cotswolds would have you taking the direct service train from London Paddington station to Kemble, which takes around 1 hour 11 minutes.
Into the heart of Cotswolds? Take the service from London Paddington station to Moreton-in-Marsh, which takes an estimation of 1 hour 37 minutes.
In Cotswolds, anything is possible, from a range of touring the Blenheim Palace to antique shopping. However, my personal favourite would be to take a stroll along the busy streets during sunset while listening to the hustle and bustle of the town. Imagine yourself as the main character of a novel, carefree and void of all troubles from reality (unless you have a whole world to save)
Another alternative, which is also one of my favourite leisure activity, would be to stay indoors. Sitting by the dormer window and listening to the raindrops pitter-patter onto your rooftop while you daydream or read. Such a simple yet luxurious life, am I right? ;) Cotswolds is certainly a fantasy in reality. So, let your imagination run wild once in a while, fellow dreamers!
