7 Niche Career Options

Hi Fonzies! Are you still unsure of which career path to embark on after graduation? Or are you keen to tread on a path that is slightly more unique than the conventional jobs we are familiar with? Whether you’re just starting college or near the end of it, it’s never too early or too late to take a look at these niche career options that just might be where your passion lies!

1. Information Security Analyst

Planning to pursue a degree in computer science but not sure what jobs this certificate can get you? Well, one of the lesser known paths in the industry include becoming an Information Security Analyst, which is someone that designs security systems for computer networks, monitor breaches and so on (basically a computer guard).

2. Luthier

Now this word is unfamiliar, right? A luthier is actually one that repairs, restores or crafts string instruments like cellos, violins, harps and so on. If you’re a music lover that’s more inclined to pursue something on the path of traditional music, this is an interesting choice apart from being a performer that might be incredibly rewarding as well. Not to mention, being a luthier has also been ranked one of the least stressful jobs ever (which sounds super tempting).

3. Cybercrime Investigator

We have heard of crime investigators, but were you aware that there are specific investigators for cybercrimes as well? These people, like the name suggests, conduct investigations for cybercrimes and can be hired by consulting firms, law enforcement agencies and so on. You can also become a white-hat hacker that helps test out security systems.

4. Digital Colorist

This is one of the newer jobs that have just recently surfaced due to the high advancements of technology. In a few words, digital colorists modify the colors and feel of movies, dramas or advertisements. They adjust things such as saturation, vibrance, luminosity that shapes our viewing experience, as well as make enhancements here and there that perfect the outcome of the videos. This is a job option with quite a lot of potential growth for those of you who are interested in the media industry.

5. Genetic Counselor

Ever wanted to know what your DNA says about your health? If you have, these are the people you find, or better yet, become. Genetic counselors help patients assess the risk of inherited conditions, which is actually more common than we think. However, most genetic counselor posts require a master’s degree, so definitely take note of this when planning your education course!

6. Geodesist

Think measuring, but on a global scale - that is kind of, but not completely what geodesists do. In summary, these people measure many, many things (such as the Earth’s size and shape, geodynamic phenomena etc.) to find out the exact coordinates of a point. This is an occupation that most people have never heard of, so it’s definitely a cool and unique choice for science students to opt for.

7. Voice Actor

Out of all the jobs in the list, voice actors may not be as less-known, but it is definitely not an occupation that is at the top of people’s minds when considering a career path in media. Voice actors provide many of your favorite characters with their iconic voices, so if you have a voice that is unique in some way (very gruff? Very high-pitched?), this could definitely be the job for you.

So, Fonzies, did any of these jobs spark an interest in you? If it did, do research more on the academic requirements and other details such as salary, working hours and more. If it didn't, that's okay and hope you find your ideal career path soon!
